For the past several years, I’ve chosen a word of the year…and it has not always worked out! The year I chose “Fun,” for example, hoping to focus on fun activities, was one of the least fun years of my adult life.
I’m happy to say that I have learned absolutely nothing from my disappointments. After all, on a few years, the word worked out pretty well!
New Year’s Day is my favorite holiday, and it’s not even close. Right now, I’m very excited about all my incredibly ambitious goals, and I’m convinced that 2025 is going to be my Best Year Yet.
By the way, if you want to choose a word yourself, check out my 150 word of the year ideas!
My word for 2025 is “Light.”
I want to bring a little more light into other people’s lives, maybe get a little lighter physically though diet and exercise, and take life lightly. Things may not always go my way, and I don’t have control over everything, but I can choose not to sweat the small stuff…or even the medium stuff! (I’ll exercise and do literal sweating instead!)
It’s easy to get too serious and forget to enjoy the day. I’m going to seek out things that make me smile.
I don’t know if I’ll blog about my New Year resolutions or not. On the one hand, I know they’re more interesting to me than to anyone else. On the other hand, I might do it so I can get you to tell me about yours, because I’m curious!
But right now, I also want to tell you about…
My “Plot Your Romance Novel in an Hour” Online Workshop!
In January, I’m teaching a fun writing workshop at Tropes & Trifles bookstore in Minneapolis. It’s designed to help people plot their romance novel…and get excited about a new project!
The bookstore owners announced the workshop late last week, and the forty seats sold out in a day and a half. Several people asked me about an online version!
So I’m offering it over Zoom on Wednesday, February 5th, at 7 p.m. Chicago time. It costs $12.51 ($10 for me, and $2.51 for Eventbrite.) There will be in-class exercises, but you won’t be asked to share…I never put anyone on the spot! If you’re interested, here’s the link to sign up (or just learn more!)
Are you enjoying the season?
We have actually had the flu and have been cooped up at home finishing up book edits for clients, so we haven’t felt that festive yet. But we’re starting to feel better, and we’re looking forward to fun times with family!
I hope you enjoy the holidays…or if you don’t celebrate them, I hope you enjoy the end of this year! Thank you so much for reading!
Brilliant word for 2025! May this dream come true in every sense of the word.
