Many of you weighed in Friday on whether I should bring back WIP Wednesday…
This was a regular feature on this blog for years. On the first Wednesday of every month, I would share a snippet of a work in progress, and others would do the same in the comments section. I had discontinued it out of concerns about AI scraping, but I really missed it and it occurred to me that with shorter snippets, it would be less of a concern.
A couple of you still don’t feel comfortable sharing, and I understand! Most of you really missed WIP Wednesdays, and probably nobody has been missing them as much as I have! And we have some newer folks who haven’t done them before and would like to try.
So this is a heads up that I’m going to start it up again on the first Wednesday of every month, beginning May 1!
We’ll just be sharing 200-word excerpts! As most of you know, we don’t do real critique on WIP Wednesday, so you don’t need to worry that your work will be criticized. It’s just a time to share and to encourage one another. I’m really looking forward to it!
I hope everything is going well for you all! Whether you participate in WIP Wednesday or not, thank you so much for being a part of this site. I really appreciate you!
Hi, Bryn.
I’ve been a fan since the first day I met you at a Joplin Writers Guild meeting. I appreciate all that you share here and elsewhere.
May I ask, what is your particular concern about AI and WIP Wednesday? I know the general concerns. I have some myself. A writing service I subscribe to is throwing AI suggestions out, which I ignore. I want my work to be fresh and original.
I am currently working on a western time travel that I’m sharing with my critique group. I think it would be fun to share here as well.
Bonnie T.
Hi Bonnie! I don’t pretend to be an expert about AI. However, generative AI companies have used a ton of copyrighted work, included pirated books, and they want to replace human writers. I don’t appreciate it! This blog is on WordPress, and they’re always trying to get me to use AI. No thank you!
A Western time travel? That sounds like so much fun! I’d love to see a little of it!
My niece is an upper level science teacher. Her kids try to use AI but she says it’s obvious and doesn’t let them get by with it.
I’ll be happy to share a little of my WIP. It’s been a fun project.
Great news! Thanks, Bryn.
You bet! Have a great week, Halle!
I’m happy to hear this. Thanks for bringing it back Bryn. I’ll join in as often as I can.
Great, Cheryl! I hope you have a good week!
I would love to see this come back.
Awesome, Carey! Thank you!
Thank you for bringing WIP Wednesday too, Bryn
🍂
You bet, Niceda! Have a great week!
Yay!!
😊
Yay! So excited.
I’m looking forward to trying this for the first time. Can you share the guidelines with me? Thanks!
Hi Cynde! Sorry for the delayed reply. Hopefully the guidelines were clear on the May 1 post!
Great. I’ve not used it before, but I will now.
Oh good! We’d love it!
