Hey friends! I’ve been getting into Christmas shopping, and I’ve also been making my own wish list at Mr. Donovan’s request. That all got me thinking about gifts for authors, and I figured a “Best Gifts for Writers” list would be fun!
I’m going to keep everything on this list under $25, because some of the best gifts for writers aren’t even that expensive. Of course, if you don’t have to stick to the under $25 limit, you could put a few of these together for a really fabulous custom writer gift box or gift basket.
Maybe you’ll find something to put on your wish list or to give to a writer (or an aspiring writer)…and of course, I encourage you to treat yourself. ‘Tis the season!

All of these are things you can order online…which I think we’re all doing now more than ever. To get a better look at any of these things, just click on the title or the image to go to the website!

“Write Your Own Story” Framed Mini Print
I love this because it applies to both writing and life. It’s under $25 as I’m writing this post, anyway, because it’s way on sale! Check out all the choices at Society 6.

Fisher Bullet Space Pen
Writing is more fun with a good pen, and writing with one that someone gave you for a gift is really special. This one is a classic: it was designed in 1948, and one of them is displayed in the MOMA in New York. It comes in five colors, too—I love the lime green! (The website I’m linking to here, Levenger, has a lot of seriously classy gifts for writers.)

Brain Food
Writers need energy to keep going, and these organic snacks of mixed nuts would be so cute in a writer’s gift basket.
[spacer height=”20px”]
“Writing: Do Not Disturb” Door Hanger
I feel like every writer could use this. Wait—I could use this! It’s handmade with that old-fashioned burned wood technique that I love.
[spacer height=”20px”]
First Lines of Literature Coffee Mug
I like these mugs from the Unemployed Philosophers Guild because they’re great quality, they’re slightly oversized (or writer-sized, where coffee is concerned), and the boxes they come in make them nice for giving.
There’s another mug I also love for writers, but I try to avoid coarse language for the most part on this blog, so you’ll have to look for the “writer naming convention mug” for yourself.

“I’m Not Quiet, I’m Plotting” Tee Shirt
Of course, this might refer to more than just writing! It comes in a lot of colors and sizes, including unisex sizes.
[spacer height=”20px”]
“It’s a Good Day to Write” Tee Shirt
I also really like this one. It’s almost always a good day to write!
[spacer height=”20px”]
Quote Couture Earrings
These are so cute, and what’s even better, a portion of the proceeds goes to First Book—a great organization that provides new books, educational resources, and other essentials—including coats, snacks, and hygiene kits—to educators serving children in need.
Writer’s Block Cabernet Franc or Pinot Noir.
Unlike other items on the list, these wouldn’t be suitable for gifts for young writers, of course. However, for writers who enjoy wine, they’re pretty fun.

Writer at Work Socks
I was going to say these would be good stocking stuffers…but does that make sense to say about socks? Giftception! (The Redbubble site was being a little flaky as I was writing this post, probably due to almost-Black Friday traffic, but I’ve never seen that happen before. I’ve ordered lots of things from them over the years and I love them.)
[spacer height=”20px”]
SKILCRAFT® 100% Recycled Spiral Notebooks
I know this seems very basic. But…for a lot of writers, there’s nothing like a brand-new notebook, and they can never have too many of them. I love it that these are 100% post-consumer recycled. I ordered a couple of 5-subject notes from Office Depot, and they delivered fast!

Blank Page to Final Draft and 5,000 Writing Prompts
I recommend the first book for aspiring authors, and the second one for any kind of writer…screenwriters, poets, fiction writers, bloggers, you name it.

Do you have other ideas for gifts for writers…including any you things you may have had an eye on, yourself? I’d love to hear about them! Thanks for reading, and happy writing!
This is a great list! I think those earrings are FABULOUS! I’m glad you put those books on the list because one of my favorite things to get are books from other people. Going to the bookstore (or even shopping online) can be a tad overwhelming…and hard to stay on budget…when I’m shopping for myself so I simply love it when people take that burden off my shoulders (I know, I know, first world problems) and share with me something they enjoyed.
Aw thanks Katrina! I didn’t start the list with the idea of putting them on there, and then Mr. Donovan encouraged me to add them. 😀 I have to say…the line between Christmas shopping and shopping for me is very, very thin, haha. I hope you have a great Thanksgiving!
wonderful ideas at multiple price points.
Thanks, Denise! Hope you’re enjoying your holiday week. 🙂
Great list. A friend and former mentor of mine got me a Fisher Space Pen engraved with my name on it, just before grad school, and I loved it. Just so smooth to write. I’ve got to find it (I changed desks and despite it being 7 feet of writing space there are no drawers or cabinets. I put it in a box with special stuff and it’s gone missing). To finance my writing and other goals I’ve started working at the US Postal Service in a sort center for 13-hour days that might end up being 6-day weeks, while I do my contract data science gig 10 hours a week. If I remember right, that movie Miracle on 34th Street had those postal clerks bring in bag after bag of letters at the end. I’m one of those postal clerks, loading 70-pound sacks of parcels all night. To keep the energy up, I’ll probably (nix that; definitely) get some of that Brain Food stuff you recommend. Mixed nuts certainly sound better than ginger ale and candy.
Oh and Happy Thanksgiving!
Happy belated Thanksgiving to you! Or…happy holiday season. 🙂
Hi Chris! I had one of those pens a long time ago, and I can’t find it, either. 😀 Oh my gosh—the USPS gig sounds really tough! Of course, I know you’re really tough, too. 🙂 You take care of yourself, okay?
Will do!
Thanks for the git ideas and for keeping it below $25. That’s just realistic in these trying times.
Hi Naomi! Yeah, personally, I always hate gift lists where everything’s really expensive, and this year has brought financial strain to many. I hope you’re having a good Thanksgiving weekend!
Levenger is one of my fave stores. 🙂
I got a gift from there last year…such great quality! I love the whole website. 🙂
Is it wrong of me to want some of these for myself? 😀 😀
You deserve it, Felicia!!
Oh my gosh, Bryn …This is so great….I am in awww…You are an extraordinary young woman. I don’t know how you do what you do but I am certainly a fan. I want to bring to Nebraska, put you on my mantle, and keep you for myself. Is that selfish…Yeah…Probably…I have three daughters…I want to make you the fourth. I’m getting my credit card out to order some of this stuff…It’s absolutely perfect. Have a wonderful Holiday Season. Thanks so very much for what you do. You make me feel worthy. Take good care of you…
Hi I am a big fan! I am wondering if you have a deal on bundling some of your books.
Blank page to final draft
5000 writing prompts
Master list for writers
Thanks Jennifer
Great gift ideas Bryn for any event. Nice for book clubs–meetings with gift exchange or a group night out made special. Also, something nice, just for me (ha). I do see several here that I might just have to buy (or hint about to my family). Thanks for posting.
Hi, Cheryl–so glad you like it. 🙂 Hope your New Year is off to a good start!
