Hi, friends! I wanted to do this list of positive affirmations for anxiety management because with social and political issues, personal issues, and more, it seems like more people than ever are coping with stress or dealing with anxiety.
Positive affirmations aren’t a cure-all, but in my own experience, they can help. Using them is kind of like intentionally brainwashing yourself…in a good way. I like to use the same set of morning positive affirmations for months. I read them out loud soon after I get up. I’ve found that I really have to do this consistently for them to help. It takes repetition to push away the negative arguments my brain makes and really let the messages sink in.
These are positive affirmations for men, women, and teens. I’ve included some in a few different categories as well as general positive affirmations for stress relief. I hope you find some that work for you…and of course, you can always rewrite them to suit you, or use them as inspiration to come up with positive affirmations for anxiety of your own!
I’ve mentioned God in one of these and the universe in another, but obviously, you can rewrite those to suit your own faith tradition or belief system.[spacer height=”20px”]
Positive Affirmations for Anxiety in General
I recently re-watched the excellent Pixar movie Inside Out. Near the beginning, Joy explains the job of another character, Fear: he’s really good at keeping a person safe. I sometimes think of anxiety as the self-preservation instinct getting out of control. It keeps us close to that fight-or-flight response, which is unhealthy and just plain exhausting. I hope these positive affirmations help give you courage.
I have peace in my mind and love in my heart.
I am safe and secure.
I am supported by God above and by those who love me.
I am grateful for the blessings I enjoy now.
I am grateful for the blessings the future holds for me.
With every deep breath in, I breathe in positivity; with every breath out, I breathe out anxiety.
My fears have lifted like a fog, and it’s a bright new day.
Positive Affirmations for Social Anxiety
Social anxiety can present itself in a lot of different ways. For some people, it’s an extreme anxiety that kicks in before meeting strangers, or socializing in groups. For teens who deal with it, just attending a class can be stressful. For others, social anxiety pops at night, insisting on an audit of the things they’ve said throughout the day—or the past several years! It can make people worry that they’ve embarrassed themselves or offended others. I can be awkward at times, but I am lucky enough to have gotten over feeling bad about it for the most part. After all, people probably have much more interesting and important things to think about than my latest faux pas.
Although I am an extrovert and don’t consider myself to suffer from social anxiety in general, occasionally, it kicks in occasionally in the form of an insidious little voice in my head telling me, Nobody likes you. This is nonsense. Lots of people like me, and why wouldn’t they? I’m pretty nice!
I think focusing on others—being a good listener and saying kind things when appropriate—can take our minds’ focus off of ourselves. If you suffer from social anxiety, no matter how it presents itself, I hope one or two of these affirmations help.
People enjoy my company.
I enjoy listening to people, and they appreciate my good listening skills.
My ideas and experiences are a valuable addition to conversations.
I’m good at expressing myself.
I have a wonderful sense of humor.
I’m easy to like.
I’m good at making others feel accepted.
I am worthy of respect, kindness, and friendship.
I am loved by many family members and friends.
Positive Affirmations for Health
Let’s be clear: I don’t believe that positive affirmations are a substitute for professional medical care. And they are never, ever a replacement for sensible self-care and precautions (these aren’t “positive affirmations for COVID19 immunity”!)
However, fear and stress take a toll on the body, leaving it more vulnerable to illness. In my own experience, I’ve found that my mind and my body are connected. Affirmations about health help me take better care of myself.
Every day, my body is getting healthier.
I can feel radiant health coursing through my body.
I take good care of my body.
I am worth the effort it takes to eat healthy food and get exercise.
I show myself love by making sure I get plenty of rest.
I am conquering my illness/addiction.
My body is getting younger and stronger every day.
Pain and illness melt away from my body.
Positive Money Affirmations
The other day I asked my husband, “What did we fight about when we were first married?” He said: money. Anxiety about financial issues can come up for all kinds of reasons, and there’s nothing wrong with doing some positive affirmations for wealth to assuage your worries and fears. They may even program your brain to see new opportunities! And while some people may feel affirmations like this are selfish or greedy, I find that I am more likely to donate money when I am less worried about it.
I am rapidly getting out of debt.
I am able to handle any financial challenge.
I am grateful for what I have today.
The universe is providing me with more than I need.
I deserve an abundant life.
I am worth a high salary.
I can achieve a balance between work and life and still have plenty.
Money flows to me like a river to the sea.
My financial situation is changing for the better.
I am looking forward to a new level of wealth and prosperity.
Have you ever used positive affirmations for anxiety? Do you have other tips you can share with others who are dealing with anxiety? Please share them in the comments. I’d love to hear from different perspectives from men and from teens, since naturally, I can only write from my own experience…and then again, I’d love to hear from women, too, because not one of us is the same. Every time I write a blog post about life or positivity, I always wind up learning a lot myself, and I appreciate that!
If you feel like you need a reset or more positivity in your outlook, please check out my journal Book of Dreams Come True. It’s full of creative exercises that will remind you of your own unique talents and help you see the possibilities the future holds. I’ve gotten wonderful feedback from people who have used this journal…one from a preteen girl, and one whose 87-year-old mother loved it! I hope you enjoy it, too. [spacer height=”20px”]

No matter what’s going on in your life, I hope you’re finding calmness and peace. Thanks so much for reading!
I used positive affirmations extensively when I was younger. When I was in college, I felt I did well and was liked by professors partly because I was able to “brainwash” myself to operate above what I thought my capabilities were and produce some really decent work. I ended up getting an internship and graduating a semester early.
After that I started to depart from the use of affirmations, and slowly but surely the anxiety kicked in severely. I’d be in meetings at work and just sweating like crazy. My heart would race and I felt that my face would be turning red. It got worse when I went to business school and then got combined with another illness all together.
I’m medicated now and treated by great clinicians and the anxiety is not nearly as severe. But I don’t think I’m “running on all cylinders.”
I’ve said it before, but affirmations need to become a part of my life again. Thanks for the reminder and the examples!
Thanks, Chris, for your comments. I find that it is so important to keep those patterns that support me. Too often I realize that I have slipped. Great example of re-evaluating. And a good reminder that there are times when medical intervention is imperative.
Hi, Chris! It’s so funny, because I go through periods where I don’t use them…even though I’m a believer in them and I know they work! Any time I write a blog post like this, it’s usually because I’m giving myself a lecture, haha! I’m SO glad to hear the anxiety isn’t as severe as it was, and I LOVE hearing about the positive experiences you had with affirmations before. Here’s hoping we are both running on all cylinders soon. 🙂
I agree that positive self-talk is important to keeping our mood elevated, but I had to laugh at the one that says “My body is getting younger and stronger every day” because it reminded me of what Donald Trump said when he came out of hospital.
Naomi—oh my goodness!! That’s horrifying/hilarious. I never, ever watch or listen to Donald Trump, so I’m usually out of the loop regarding what he says. But I think we can all agree that there’s a difference between what you say as positive self-talk, and what you say as a public statement as the President. Sheesh. It seems like Donald Trump actually believed that if he pretended everything was fine, COVID would go away. That’s actually one of the reasons why I emphasized that positive affirmations are NEVER any substitution for prevention or treatment.
What a great reminder, Bryn. I noticed an affirmation I posted a long time ago that hit home as I read it today. I am: Recognized, appreciated, valued, respected.
I love that, Jessie!
Hey, I apologize about the comments timing out. I deleted the duplicate comment. I thought this issue was fixed before, and clearly, it wasn’t. My web host has pointed out that I do have a lot of traffic, but uh…isn’t that a good thing? Haha. I am going to get a techy person to look into it and fix it soon!
Not for anxiety, but I like to motivate myself with: She believed she could, so she did.

Oh my gosh…I actually know the woman who first came up with that! Suzanne Berry. She’s a Hallmark writer and she wrote it as part of a quote writing project. It’s amazing how it took off far and wide. And I love it!
That’s wonderful. It’s never attributed. Sometimes, I look for the author so I can. I’ll have to remember her name. Thanks for sharing. She, through her quote, helped me finish my novel.
I looked her up, too.

A great list! Thanks for the much needed reminder!
Aw thanks friend! Hope all is well with you!
These are so great, thanks for sharing ❤️
Thanks for reading, Kellie—I’m glad you liked them!
This is timely. I could not sleep last night because of anxiety and fear. I had to get up and take a sleeping pill. I’ll try these. 🙂
I take them almost every night now! I feel you, sis. <3 These do help me, too!
This is absolutely wonderful, and very timely for me. I just finished writing a short devotional for my church’s Advent booklet that they put out each year. The theme this year is Fear Not. I’ve been repeating a passage from Deuteronomy quite a lot that I used for the basis of my devotional. “I will never leave you or forsake you.” That has been a huge help to me this year.
Erin,I love that theme for Advent…so perfect for this year. Such a good verse, too! I’ve always felt that one on a deep level.
I love this Erin! What comfort Bible verses are! My favorite is 2 Timothy 1:7
Yes! I repeat that one to myself often.
I first came to know about affirmations through Julia Cameron, but I haven’t yet tried them out for myself. As my anxiety worsens though (or, at least, as I become more aware of what was already in me), I’ve found myself searching for something like this. Thanks for sharing!
