Here are some things I read and liked lately!
Beneath Sleepless Stars, Elizabeth Cole.
I really love this title and this cover! This is the fifth in the Secrets of the Zodiac series, but it was the first one I read, and it stands alone just fine. I liked the intrigue, the atypical heroine, and the realistic development of the romance.
Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood, Marjane Satrapi.
This was on my “50 Books That Might Make Me Smarter” list. I had heard this graphic novel was great, and it was — heartbreaking, enlightening, and sometimes surprisingly funny. Satrapi doesn’t paint her childhood self as perfect — she depicts times when she was a little jerk — and that just makes her all the more irresistible. In fact, her whole family was amazing.
I couldn’t resist a story with both ghosts and men in love, and this Jane Eyre-type romance met my high hopes. The narrator has faked his credentials and invented his identity, and I always have a soft spot for characters like that.
In this science fiction story from Book Smugglers, the title describes the prose. It’s a magical romance and a meditation on age and self-perception.

Thank you so much for the shout-out, my dear! Some love for Luminous!
Reaper’s Girl by Genevieve Powell. Awesome read.
Just looked it up – that does look really good! Of course, I love ghost stories, obviously!
I recently finished “Keep Quiet” by Lisa Scottoline. Now, I’ve just started “Come Home” by her, as well.
Thank you for the suggestion! The title Keep Quiet immediately made me tense up — and it sounds like a very tense story, in a great way! I love getting suggestions. It’s so easy for me to read the same kinds of things all the time. 🙂
